Presentation Software: Prezi

Prezi is a web-based presentation tool that allows users to create dynamic presentations. It's similar to other presentation software like Microsoft PowerPoint, but Prezi is cloud-based and is known for its non-linear presentations.

Prezi was founded in 2009 in Budapest, Hungary by Adam Somlai-Fischer, Peter Halacsy and Peter Arvai.

The earliest zooming presentation prototype had been previously developed by Somlai-Fischer to showcase his media-art pieces. Peter Halacsy, an engineer saw one of these presentations and proposed to improve the software. They were joined by entrepreneur and future CEO, Peter Arvai with the goal of making Prezi a globally recognized SaaS company.

Today, teachers are using Prezi tools to engage students in a variety of ways, including flipping the classroom from traditional direct instruction, providing study guides, and facilitating online learning.

There are so many benefits of using Prezi for teaching. They are 1) increasing teacher's confidence, 2) decreasing his teaching anxiety, 3) helping the students to easily brainstorm the material provided, 4) giving motivation to study and 5) producing better learning experience. However, it has also challenges which encourages the teacher to have high access of internet and be creative on making Prezi presentation.

The problems with Prezi

Text is still text, bullet points still don’t work.

Prezi allows interesting transitions between frames, but within-frame animations are limited.

The canvas provides a spatial framework for organizing information, but few presentations make use of it properly.

Frames in Prezi are spatially related whether this makes sense or not.

Nesting of content within frames mixes spatial and hierarchical relationships, which is confusing for audiences.

Prezi’s default settings encourage poor practice.

Future Outlook:

Have you ever wondered if the educational system in place today is the best for educators and learners? Do you think it will still be valid for 5-10 years? 🧐

When you consider how far education has come in such a short amount of time and where we are going, the future of education is exciting! Through the years, we have seen trends that have long been a staple of education but only recently have some of these concepts caught fire in the wake of innovations and digital learning.

Future trends in educational technology include personalized learning, augmented reality, and virtual reality. These technologies are expected to transform the way people learn and teach.
